Wat Chedi Thong
Wat Chedi Thong
Situated on the bank of the Chao Phraya River in Sam Khok’s Klong Kwai community, Wat Chedi Thong, meaning the temple of the golden pagoda, used to be a deserted temple built in the Ayutthaya era around three hundred years ago. It was also believed that Mon immigrants had renovated this temple after they had settled down in the area.
The most striking highlight of the temple is the golden Mon-style pagoda. It was significantly built under the Mon influence similar to those seen in Myanmar nowadays.
Inspired by the Mon architecture and design, Wat Chedi Thong exhibits an astonishing castle-shaped pagoda, considered as a fine masterpiece of art with second-to-none elegance and beauty. The temple, located in the heart of the Mon village, also features a holy chapel decorated with Mon-style stencils, a huge Buddha image made from white jade and a freestanding sacred bell tower.
